Laurie Carr joins Generation Citizen as a lifelong educational leader. She has been a teacher in California, Louisiana, Colorado, and Switzerland; served as a principal in Massachusetts; worked as a Transformation Coach for the North Carolina Department of Public Instruction coaching leaders in the stateās lowest-performing schools and districts; and supported principals at the central office level, most recently as a Chief of Schools.
Laurie has always been involved in the intersectionality of social justice work and politics, volunteering on campaigns while in high school and college, participating in marches, interning with a NY state assemblyman, and giving her time and voice for causes she believes in.
Laurie is passionate about DEIJ and is conscious about showing up as an ally and advocate, while recognizing the power her racial privilege has afforded her and utilizing it to assure othersā voices, including those of students, are amplified. She is currently serving as a North Carolina C.R.E.E.D Equity Fellow and as a member of the LeveragEd Foundationās Collective.
A Teach For America alumna, Laurie holds an EdM in school leadership from Harvardās Graduate School of Education and a BA in political science from the State University of NY at Buffalo; she has also completed all doctoral coursework toward an EdD in school administration from Gardner-Webb University.
Laurie loves to learn new things and is an avid international traveler. She enjoys downtime with family & friends and her rescue dog, Mikey.
