Michelle Tilley

Michelle Tilley, Executive Director - South Region for Generation Citizen

As a young student, Michelle took a trip to her state capitol to advocate for increased education funding. The experience sparked a passion for our democracy which led her to a career working in government, politics, and education.  Michelle earned both a political science and law degree from the University of Oklahoma. In the years that have followed, she has worked as an advisor and strategist on over a hundred challenging political and policy projects to help everyday Americans at the local, state, and federal levels.

Michelle worked in Congress in Washington D.C., for Congressman Brad Carson, where she was a part of the team that developed the relocation plan for the residents in the Tar Creek Superfund site.  She has advised dozens of candidates and elected officials. She was also the Political Director for the winning campaign that expanded Medicaid in Oklahoma, providing access to health insurance for hundreds of thousands of Oklahomans.  The campaign was awarded the Best Ballot Measure Campaign in the country in 2020 by the American Association of Political Consultants.

For her work, Michelle has been recognized by Campaigns and Elections magazine on its 500 Influencers in America list, as one of the top 10 political influencers in Oklahoma, and as an Oklahoma Achiever Under 40 by the Journal Record.

Michelle believes hands-on civics education is the key to empowering students.  She taught government for 5 years at Redlands Community College and volunteers with organizations that teach students the fundamentals of how our democracy works.  Born in southern Louisiana and raised in southern rural Oklahoma, Michelle loves the South and is excited to strengthen civics education through the Generation Citizen program for students across the region.

Michelle serves as a Girl Scout Leader, and currently lives in Edmond, Oklahoma, with her two daughters.  She and her girls love music, most recently going to the Taylor Swift Eras tour in Dallas.
