Welcoming the NEW Executive Director for GC South, Michelle Tilley!

We invite you to welcome Michelle Tilley to Generation Citizen South! Michelle started as the new Executive Director on October 30th, bringing a wealth of experience and knowledge to our team.

Her passion for democracy was sparked early on as a young student who advocated for increased education funding during a visit to the state capitol. Since then, Michelle has led a career in government, politics, and education, obtaining both a Political Science and Law degree from the University of Oklahoma.

Michelle has worked as both an advisor and strategist for over 100 challenging political and policy projects that focused on helping everyday Americans at the local, state, and federal levels. She worked alongside Congressman Brad Carson in Washington, D.C. as part of the team that developed the relocation plan for the Tar Creek Superfund site residents. Michelle has also served as the Political Director for the winning campaign that expanded Medicaid in Oklahoma, providing access to health insurance for hundreds of thousands of Oklahomans and earning national recognition as the Best Ballot Measure Campaign in the country in 2020.

Michelle has been recognized by Campaigns and Elections magazine as one of the top 10 political influencers in Oklahoma and by the Journal Record as an Oklahoma Achiever Under 40.

Michelle believes hands-on civics education is the key to empowering students. She taught government for five years at Redlands Community College and volunteers with organizations that teach students the fundamentals of how our democracy works. Born in southern Louisiana and raised in southern rural Oklahoma, Michelle loves the South and is excited to strengthen civics education through the Generation Citizen program for students across the region.

Michelle will be reaching out to GC supporters over the coming weeks to make introductions. We look forward to her leadership at the upcoming Oklahoma Civics Day on Tuesday, December 5th!
